Another nuclear crisis is developing in Iran. On a
visit last month the International Atomic Energy Agency announced that
they had discovered that Iran was constructing a facility to enrich
uranium which is a key component of advanced nuclear weapons. This
facility was much further developed than previously thought.
It would appear that time is running out for Saddam Hussein, Colin
Powell is hoping that a majority of UN Security Council members will
vote for an ultimatum giving Saddam Hussein until March 17 to prove that
he has disarmed. But Powell has acknowledged that some permanent council
members remain opposed and could veto it. President Bush has also
announced that �When it comes to our security. We really don't need
anybody's permission." Adding further evidence that the war is about to
begin.
Today marks the third anniversary of the biggest party ever hosted by
Wall Street, the Nasdaq composite index soared as high as 5,132 on March
10 2000 hitting a level never seen in its 30 year history.
The price of gasoline will hit a nationwide average of $1.76 per gallon
in April, which would surpass the record monthly average of $1.71 in May
2001. In the New York area, prices are already are above that, averaging
$1.77 on Long Island and $1.83 in Queens.
A strike against the use of taped music at Broadway shows is keeping
Broadway theatres closed. With much of New York's theatre district
affected, local restaurants are suffering from the loss of business from
would-be theatergoers. The strike has affected 18 musicals so far, but
the walkout is not over salaries. Under the current contract, musical
productions currently must employ a minimum of 26 musicians which
producers want to reduce to about 14. |
